Skylight Window Film for Heat and Glare Control

A big skylight, a lot of sun, too much heat. Here’s how we tackled it.

This building has a large, multi-panel skylight on its roof, surrounded by the city around it. It brings plenty of daylight inside, but the people working underneath it were dealing with heat and glare coming through the glass. On top of that, the skylight still had very old film on it.

That’s where we came in

We looked at the problem and recommended 3M Prestige 20 Exterior, a metal-free solar control film made for exterior application. We worked from the roof, directly on the sloped glass, using safety lines. First, we removed the old film so the new one could go onto clean glass. Then we installed 3M Prestige 20 Exterior on the skylight.

According to 3M, this film rejects up to 97% of infrared light, blocks up to 99.9% of UV rays and reduces glare by 77%. From the outside, the skylight now has a clean, even look.
